Arms in Action DVD

The tales of Greek and Roman warriors, of Viking raids and knights in armor have almost all been distorted by the tellers. Stories of epic conflicts written well after the fact have been the main source for information on how ancient and medieval warriors plied their craft, but we now know that many of these tales are inaccurate.

ARMS IN ACTION uses the vast collection of the world famous Royal Armouries in London and the knowledge of specially trained historical fight interpreters to show how weapons from the long sword to the lance really worked in battle and to find out how effective they were. In five gripping videos, the most famous weapons from history are demonstrated, tested and evaluated. Stunningly detailed and painstakingly accurate reconstructions bring historic battlefields to life. Master craftsmen reveal how the weapons were constructed and tell of the innovations that made them ever more deadly. Watch in awe as huge siege machines are fired for the first time in centuries, as arrows rain down on castle walls, as the world's first firearms are tested against the metal armor of the day.

Like no other program ever made, ARMS IN ACTION reveals what the battles of the past were really like. The five videos in this set are: SLINGS AND SPEARS, CASTLES AND SIEGES, THE SWORD, MAIL AND PLATE ARMOR and THE FIRST FIREARMS.
